Bucks County Designer House & Garden

Lisa Shull will be a participant in this year's Bucks County Designer showhouse . This blog will take you step by step through the design process. If you are not familiar with this event, let me give you a little background. This is a major fund raiser for the VIA or Village Improvement Association of Doylestown. They are best known for raising funds for Doylestown Hospital.

The concept of a Designer Showhouse is that someone donates their home, or a home that is not currently occupied and local, talented, designers band together to refinish, restore, redecorate, recreate the most beautiful rooms possible! Admission is charged and all of the furnishings are for sale. Hence....a fund raiser.

Designers are invited to preview the empty house and decide if they want to undergo
the task at hand. Some of the homes have not been lived in and are in need of serious
repair. Some homes are in great shape and don't require alot of work. It seems every year I go to preview the chosen house...it rains. Not a very good way to make a first impression! So, once you peruse the house you pick a room that suits you and note it on the application. Then you create a design board illustrating your grand plans and add fabric swatches or pictures to impress the ladies on the VIA board! Then you wait to see if you are chosen.

 By now your mind is churning out ideas for your room. Color schemes, room themes, who you gonna get to help you paint those awful walls and shine up those dull floors. So you go the the house and stare at the four ways, trying to envision the best way to express what you do best. The next step is Measuring Day which I will cover in my next blog post!
