The Fabric Loft's Trend and Color of 2014:
Purple
I am obsessed with PURPLE!! Now I am seeing it everywhere.
Even the shopping bags at Wegman’s are speaking purple. This is how the trends
start. Well, first the new color trends are determined by the experts, such as
Pantone. “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and
magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an
expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its
beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health." If you Google
Radiant Orchid you may see images of things in our everyday life that are the
inspiration for all types of design.
Interior Design is often inspired by fashion, art, nature
and everyday items such as dishes, vases, flower pots, etc. That is where the
process starts. As a decorator, our job is to take that inspiration and create
a setting in your home that follows the trend. The headline of an article in
last week’s Inquirer said “How to be trendy, but not too much”. Basically, you
shouldn’t go overboard with any one color scheme or motif. Add a touch here and
there, layer your existing décor with the latest colors.

Using fabric is
one of the BEST ways to achieve this goal. While keeping your draperies neutral,
you can embellish them with drapery trim or decorative tapes. Adding a couple
of pillows to your sofas and chairs in the latest colors is a great and least
expensive way to go. Pick up a chenille throw and place it over the arm of the
sofa. Find vases or silk flowers in shades of your new color scheme. Try to
transform the room in these strategic ways. Painting the walls is, of course,
always an option.

With that in mind, The Fabric Loft is busy with their ever
changing window display. We have decided to bring the color PURPLE outside.
Stay tuned for our transition and let’s get ready for decorating inside and
out!
