The Fabric Loft says Mint Green Is The Official Color Of Spring!

Mint green is the new color for spring. Have you been clothes shopping lately? I always get inspiration for interior design from the latest trends in clothing and accessories. Although we don’t redesign our homes as frequently as we change our clothing styles, there is still a correlation.  Shades of green such as mint, spearmint, pastel green, pale aqua can easily be blended with rooms of gray or beiges. A simple transition might be a chenille throw on a chair or custom pillows using the latest in tapes and trimmings.

With the arrival of spring and every thing blooming, now is the time to spruce up your yards and your family rooms! I was at Cracker Barrel eating pancakes and they had accessories for the kitchen that reminded me of the 1950’s. Remember that shade of minty green? I stopped and took a picture for this blog.

I recently purchased a new pocketbook and loafers in the same beautiful color. They seem to go well with gray, khaki and denim. Oh and my new sneakers from Old  Navy…mint green. You might say I’m obsessed.

Do you love mint green too? Well visit our social media sites for tons of pictures, fun ideas and photos of mint green!

2014: New Year Of Trends and Colors

The Fabric Loft's Trend and Color of 2014:

Purple

I am obsessed with PURPLE!! Now I am seeing it everywhere. Even the shopping bags at Wegman’s are speaking purple. This is how the trends start. Well, first the new color trends are determined by the experts, such as Pantone. “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health." If you Google Radiant Orchid you may see images of things in our everyday life that are the inspiration for all types of design.

Interior Design is often inspired by fashion, art, nature and everyday items such as dishes, vases, flower pots, etc. That is where the process starts. As a decorator, our job is to take that inspiration and create a setting in your home that follows the trend. The headline of an article in last week’s Inquirer said “How to be trendy, but not too much”. Basically, you shouldn’t go overboard with any one color scheme or motif. Add a touch here and there, layer your existing décor with the latest colors.

Using fabric is one of the BEST ways to achieve this goal. While keeping your draperies neutral, you can embellish them with drapery trim or decorative tapes. Adding a couple of pillows to your sofas and chairs in the latest colors is a great and least expensive way to go. Pick up a chenille throw and place it over the arm of the sofa. Find vases or silk flowers in shades of your new color scheme. Try to transform the room in these strategic ways. Painting the walls is, of course, always an option.

With that in mind, The Fabric Loft is busy with their ever changing window display. We have decided to bring the color PURPLE outside. Stay tuned for our transition and let’s get ready for decorating inside and out!

Happy New Year! By now most of you have spruced up your homes for the holiday season. Things are calming down. We like this time of year at The Fabric Loft because it gives us the opportunity to RE….redecorate, recreate, revamp and review our showroom and our customers.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to drive by our storefront on Rt. 202 (we’re right at the red light at Peddlers Village in Lahaska), you are missing an ever changing window display. Curious people have stopped in just because of our windows. We try to use creative ways to display the latest color and fabric trends. Not every display is a window treatment , upholstered headboard or bedspread, sometimes we cover lamp shades or umbrellas with bright geometrics or floral fabrics.

So what’s in store for 2014? You’ll have to drive by or follow our blog to find out! If you are in the area…stop by. We would love to meet you.
